Executive Director
Sammy Moon, an Amory, Mississippi native, is the Executive Director of the Mississippi Association of Grantmakers (MAG), the “trade association” for philanthropy in the state. In this position, Sammy provides leadership and support to philanthropic organizations in their efforts to strengthen Mississippi’s children, families, and communities. His work involves interaction with foundations, United Ways, nonprofit organizations, public sector entities, and businesses throughout the state. He is particularly involved in working with philanthropic organizations as they explore ways to work and invest collaboratively around issues of mutual interest.

 
Sammy formerly served as a Senior Advisor to United Way Worldwide’s Field Engagement Division, where he worked with local United Ways interested in third-grade reading programming and impact investing. Before that, Sammy worked as a Senior Associate at the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Baltimore, Maryland, the largest private foundation in the country devoted solely to building stronger futures for vulnerable children and their families.

 
Sammy’s experience also includes leading work at the Georgia Academy for Families and Children in Atlanta that resulted in a statewide consulting and technical assistance program focused on building capacity in children/family-focused nonprofit organizations. He spearheaded the team that planned, developed and implemented the nationally-recognized Promising Practices Network (www.promisingpractices.net). Sammy’s formal education includes a Masters of Arts (MA) in Sociology from the University of Mississippi, a Masters of Social Work (MSW) from theUniversity of Southern Mississippi, and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from the Kennedy School at Harvard University.
